   Sometimes, nothing but Joy Division will do–and I could watch Ian Curtis for hours. Although “24 Hour Party People” made me feel as if I’d just woken up in a filthy gutter, I loved that they got someone who could do his dance moves.

     I agree about their music. It sounds as original to me today as it did when I first heard it as a teenager. As for the film, I remember not liking it, although it’s been so long I can’t put my finger on why. I still haven’t watched “Control” either. I’m always leery of dramatizations of something I consider sacred. I did read Touching from a Distance by Deborah Curtis and recommend it.

       Yes to leeriness of dramatizations! A friend of mine just sent me a trailer for an IFC production about Chet Baker, with Ethan Hawke in the lead role. I told her I absolutely couldn’t do it, because Chet is sacred to me, and I couldn’t bear to see that guy reveling in that legacy. (I still wouldn’t watch it with someone else in the lead, but…)
