this just in: what todd akin meant to say

“It seems to me, first of all, from what I understand from doctors [my frat brothers in college], that’s really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

In college, Mr. Akin was a member of Phi Gamma Delta (aka FIJI), a fraternity with a well-documented history of rape tolerance, e.g. here, here, here, here, here, and here.

The genesis of our beliefs lies rooted in the loam of youth. Those roots are tough to cut.

  1. My brain cannot take in and process this level of noxious drivel so I am looking for a largish bucket of fine sand in which to bury my aching head.

  2. Interesting info. I had no idea that Akin’s misogyny is so well grounded. I think he also meant to say, “If the little gal gets pregnant, she wasn’t raped. It was consensual. I don’t care if she was in a coma, 12 years old, or physically disabled.”

    • Once a frat boy, always a frat boy. And yes, he sure did leave that other part out, too, didn’t he. As usual, The Onion has taken that point to the extreme, although no more extreme than the standard rhetoric of anti-abortion activists.
